The best rackets of Spanish badminton will meet this weekend in Cartagena

The Palacio de los Deportes de Cartagena will be the venue for the Spanish badminton and para-badminton Championships. This coming weekend, from June 4 to 6, the 16 best rackets in the national ranking They will meet in Cartagena to contest the most important national test.

The councilor delegate for Sports, Diego Ortega has presented this championship together with Pedro Caparrós, president of the Badminton Federation of the Region from Murcia, and Pablo Caparrós, technical director of the Cartagena Badminton Club, organizers of this event.

The mayor has stated that this sporting event is “affected by covid restrictions, which makes it difficult to carry out sporting events, but little by little we are recovering normality regarding the organization of these events ”. The championship will be held on the auxiliary track of the Palacio de los Deportes, it will not be able to count on the presence of the public.

Pedro Caparrós assured that this tournament is “the jewel in the crown of the Spanish Badminton Federation and it is the most important of all those organized”. In previous years it has been organized in Pontevedra, Oviedo or Huelva, cities deeply rooted in this sport. Never before has the Region hosted this championship, for which he has extended his gratitude to the Cartagena City Council and the Spanish Badminton Federation “for the confidence to organize an event of these characteristics

The championship will be attended by more than 140 athletes, the 16 best in the national ranking in each category. The absolute national is structured in the categories of male and female singles, male and female doubles and mixed doubles. For its part, that of parabadminton will have a unified modality for wheelchair players; and on the other hand two other categories for players with disabilities in lower and upper limbs. These last two categories will play standing up.

Several world-class players will meet in this great event. One of them, Pablo Abian: 14 times champion of Spain and that this summer will play the Olympic Games for the fourth time, a milestone of sport. In addition, there will also be Clara Azurmendi and Beatriz Corrales, winner and semifinalist respectively in the international played in Austria.
