Team Chile continues to add names for the Tokyo Olympics

This Tuesday, June 22, the International Golf Federation published the final list of the Olympic Ranking, where Chile appears as one of the countries that will have two representatives in Tokyo 2020: Joaquín Niemann and Guillermo Pereira.

“Joaking”, one of the best golfers on the planet today, placed 13th in the planetary ranking, while “Mito” did it in 41st place, driven by the high level of play he has shown in recent months and which allowed him to secure a card on the PGA Tour for next season.

Meanwhile, the one who also received good news was judoka Mary Dee Vargas, by securing their qualification to Tokyo 2020 through the continental quota of the judo world rankings.

With this, Mary Dee becomes the first Chilean woman to compete in this sport at an Olympics.

Along with the confirmation of the new classifieds, the decision of tennis player Cristian Garin not to participate in the Olympic Games was also known. Garin’s quota had been obtained thanks to his ATP Rankings, so cannot be replaced by another national tennis player.

Thus, as of today, there are 52 Chilean athletes classified for the Tokyo Olympic Games, equaling the fourth largest delegation in history.
