Spanish football already has dates

The Spanish Football Federation has announced this Monday the calendar of dates of the competitions that are under its umbrella, and has made official that the start of the campaign in the First and Second Division will take place on the weekend of August 14-15 and the end on May 22.

Meanwhile, the Spanish Super Cup will be played between January 12 and Sunday 16, initially in Saudi Arabia, as was also scheduled in 2021. Meanwhile, the final of the Copa del Rey will be held on April 23. And the competition in First RFEF will be uncorked on the last weekend of August, while it will be necessary to wait for the first of September to start the course in Second RFEF.

The ball will start rolling in Spain on the second weekend of August. With what encounters? That will be revealed this Wednesday, when the draw for pairings is scheduled. It will be known, for example, who will be the first opponent of Amorebieta in its premiere in the Second Division. Or if the public will return to San Mamés on the first day of the League or, on the contrary, will have to wait until the second, depending on where Marcelino García Toral’s team decides the draw that will start the regularity tournament. After three days, the League will stop for the September commitments of the national teams, it will resume after a fifteen-day break and there will be games on Wednesday, September 22.

In general terms, the calendar does not depart from the usual configuration, although it has been decided that there will be competition on New Year’s Eve: matchday 19 in First and 21 in Second will be held between December 31 and January 2. And the last one before Christmas? The weekend of December 18-19. Before that, the Copa del Rey will have started, with a first round scheduled for December 1. The second round starts on January 9 in Primera, just before Atlético, Barcelona, ​​Real Madrid and Athletic face the Super Cup.

It will begin on January 12 with the first semifinal. And on Thursday the 13th the second will be played. The final is for Sunday 16. The intention of the Federation is to return to Saudi Arabia, where this format was already played in 2020. That is as long as the pandemic allows it. That weekend, the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey is also played, which these teams will recover later, on Wednesday 19.

From there, days will be burned in all categories, until the semifinals of the Cup are played, between February 9 for the first leg and March 2 for the return. And the final? On Saturday, April 23, in the week of Easter. By the way, on Wednesday 20 the League matchday is collected in First and Second. After this decisive duel of the KO tournament, there will be five rounds left in the top flight, as the League ends on May 22. In the silver division, a week later, on 28-29, the same weekend that the Champions League final will be faced in Saint Petersburg.
