Public Viewing in Salzburg: Here you can watch the European Football Championship

There will be no classic public viewing in the city of Salzburg this year. Other large municipalities in the state also forego non-commercial public broadcasts.

No big public viewing in the city of Salzburg

That only has to do with the applicable Corona regulations to a limited extent, said a spokesman for the state capital for the APA. Rather, one sees the time of the large public viewings as over. “Only games and successes of your own team lead to filled fan zones. There is also more competition from pubs, bars and restaurants.” TV sets or video walls have recently become bigger and cheaper and thus more economical for local operators. The catering industry should therefore benefit from the lack of public viewing opportunities.

Salzburg inns invite you to watch the EM

The Sternbräu in Salzburg’s old town will once again set up a large video wall for seated guests in its beer garden this year. The classic brewery inns Raschhofer’s Rossbräu, Friesacher’s Einkehr, Stiegl’s Brauwelt, the wheat beer brewery “Die Weisse” or the national economy “Fuxn” are also a safe bet for fans in the city of Mozart – and the Irish pubs in the city, which are always sports-related. This year, the Augustiner Bräu in the Mülln district made a dropout at the major event. The guidelines were seen as too problematic and the games were therefore not shown, the APA said.

On June 10th it will arrive on time – our LED video wall – great powerful picture and the best thing about it – …

Public viewing in Salzburg-Süd

The Salzburg lower house association ASK_PSV Salzburg also invites football fans to watch the European Championship together. From June 11th, all games will be broadcast live on a 15 square meter video wall on the area of the club in Salzburg-Süd. Access is only available to guests with a seat reservation. You can find all information HERE.

Big cinema screen in Hallein

In Hallein (Tennengau) the “Cinema on the sidelines“Incidentally, the European Championship games are broadcast directly on the UFC Hallein football field. Tickets for adults cost eight euros – including an FFP2 mask, registered seat and a shuttle service to selected neighboring communities.

“We have developed a suitable concept within a year and are really looking forward to the opening on Friday,” explains Hallein’s organizer Werner Brabec in an interview with SALZBURG24. Cross your fingers for kickers – then 700.

Public viewing in the Vienna Prater

From the first whistle on Friday, the motto in the Vienna Prater is: “Watch Gemma football!” On an area of 3,300 square meters next to the fire village, a maximum of 650 visitors have space to collectively cross their fingers – with sufficient distance, controlled admission (3G rule) and hygienic precautions. The organizer promises state-of-the-art LED and sound technology, shady seats, drinks and food with free entry. If you want to enjoy a very special home advantage, a “LAOLA1 VIP Zone” is available.

The EM quarter opens its doors in Vienna’s WUK. “We broadcast all games, live, outdoors, in HD and in good company,” is the offer. The places are limited due to the pandemic, reservations are recommended.

“I know that there are several ideas where attempts are currently being made to reconcile this with the corona protection measures,” said Vienna City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) at a larger public viewing in Vienna. “It is not ready-made that it can be considered one hundred percent secure.” One has to wait, the organizers are in the process of adapting the concepts to the measures currently in force. A sticking point is also whether the respective projects are economically viable and how they can be financed with advertising space, for example, if it should really be public, according to Hacker.

EM zone in Klagenfurt

A large public viewing is canceled in Graz this year. In Lieboch (Graz-Umgebung district), on the other hand, a public viewing is to be offered for 300 people: the operators of the diesel cinema there want to set up an LED screen of around twelve square meters in the cinema parking lot. All games of the EM should be shown.

Two weeks ago there was a cancellation for the public viewing at Neuer Platz in Klagenfurt, but now everything is different again: the construction work for the EM zone has been going on here, between Lindwurm and City Hall, since Monday morning. 700 spectators should be able to watch the games here, taking into account the 3G rules. Talks in Villach are in full swing, and the city has announced more detailed information on the public viewing for Monday afternoon.

It was only at the weekend that the Carinthian state sports director Arno Arthofer had a suggestion: Instead of building up the infrastructure in the inner city of Klagenfurt, one could use the existing one – in the Wörtherseestadion. However, this idea was rejected: “The event in the center of Klagenfurt will provide a welcome additional stimulation for the entire city center for a month. The restaurants and businesses in this area will benefit from this,” said Mayor Christian Scheider (Carinthia team) in a broadcast. The stadium is also too big for a public viewing.

The European Football Championship is running in Vorarlberg

In Vorarlberg, opportunities for joint match shows were created at short notice. For the entire duration of the European Championship (until July 11th) the restaurant “wirtschaft “will hold a public viewing at the Haselstauden sports field in Dornbirn. The seats have to be booked, the ticket is a “consumption voucher”, they said. The final will be broadcast live on the Kornmarktplatz in Bregenz as part of a public viewing.

It is to be expected that further locations will be added in the next few days or from July onwards and that some restaurants will also offer public viewing. Cafe Erika in Dornbirn has already announced this.

No public viewing in Tyrol

The EM will probably take place in Tyrol without any major public viewing events. Such events are not planned in the provincial capital Innsbruck, Schwaz or any other city. Friends of collective football watching have to go into private life or look for an inn that invites them to cheer together – and there are quite a few of the latter in the Tyrolean capital. For example, some bars in the old town welcome football fans to watch together.

Upper Austrian public viewing fans get their money’s worth in Linz and Wels – at least the 300 guests currently allowed. The Sandburg restaurant on the Donaulände next to the Brucknerhaus will broadcast the matches of the 2021 European Football Championship in Linz. For the public viewing of the sand castle, you can reserve one of 300 deck chairs (from four euros) or a seat on the VIP grandstand (30 euros). As in bars, the 3G rule applies. In Wels, the matches of the Austrian national team as well as the semi-finals and finals will be broadcast on the town square. However, the APA learned from city marketing that the building is only set up in good weather. There will be seats and 300 people with a 3G certificate will be admitted.

Twelve public viewings reported in Lower Austria

In Lower Austria, according to the office of Sportlandesrat Jochen Danninger (ÖVP), twelve public viewings for up to 300 people and two more for up to 1,000 people were registered on Monday. The biggest events should take place in Brunn am Gebirge (Mödling district) and Trumau (Baden district).

The provincial capital St. Pölten, the district towns of Gänserndorf, Krems and Zwettl as well as Klosterneuburg (Tulln district), Gföhl (Krems district), Martinsberg (Zwettl district), Tribuswinkel (Baden district), Pellendorf, Schwadorf and Maria Lanzendorf (each Bruck ad Leitha district) and Wilhelmsburg (St. Pölten district). At the public viewing in Lower Austria, “Sport, society and cuisine could be perfectly combined”, Danninger advertised.

No major public viewing events are currently planned in Burgenland either. Due to the corona crisis, it was decided against an event this year, it was said from the town hall in Eisenstadt. The situation was simply too unsafe. But the Burgenlanders don’t have to do without watching football together. In some restaurants this will probably be possible
