ORF expert Helge Payer wiggled a few days before the start of the European Championship as a guest on the quiz program “Q1 A hint is wrong” in his field of football.
Ex-Teamgoalie Helge Payer was the star guest of the ORF program “Q1 A hint is wrong” on Wednesday. In the coming weeks, Payer will accompany domestic football fans through the EURO as an expert in public service.
At first he supported two candidates in “Q1” who were playing for money with quizmaster and soccer commentator Oliver Polzer – Payer couldn’t win anything.
The first candidate, Markus from Styria, got out with a profit of 1000 euros. After just a few questions, the team almost failed because of the football hurdle, of all things.
Griezmann instead of Mbappe
A European footballer was wanted. After the first answer, Payer threw the name Antoine Griezmann into the room. “He moved to Barcelona from Madrid”, although he actually did, would later turn out to be the wrong hint. Griezmann also matched the reference “2018 world champion with France”. The third track, “cover star of the video game FIFA21”, initially wrongly assigned the former Rapidler to the 30-year-old. “Neymar’s strike partner” – the clear reference to PSG star Kylian Mbappe was therefore left behind.
Polzer asked twice whether the duo was really sure of the Griezmann answer. Only then did Payer and the candidate give in. They logged in to Mbappe.
Payer once canceled Liverpool
Another football question later turned to the English city of Manchester. The wrong hint set the trail to Liverpool. Payer not only revealed that he used to sympathize with Liverpool rivals Manchester United. He even turned down an offer to play for the Reds. Payer: “I actually had a request from Liverpool in 2005. But as a second goalie. For me, the theme in 2008 was the European home championship.” The Rapidler didn’t want to risk losing his place in the ÖFB squad due to a lack of playing time. Ramazan Özcan, Jürgen Macho and Alexander Manninger were preferred to Payer three years later.
