NBA: Former ACB Ime Udoka takes over the historic reins of the Boston Celtics

La storm that struck the Celtics after being eliminated from the playoffs it begins to subside and after the transfer of Kemba Walker the Brad Stevens second move as the new general manager of the franchise. The one who until now was coach of the green team has already found heir to his bench and has handed over the reins of the team Ime Udoka.

The new Celtics coach lands on a historic bench with the best possible endorsement: having been Gregg Popovich’s assistant for seven seasons and count on the endorsement of players like Jayson Tatum, with which he coincided in the World Cup in China in 2019.

Udoka played seven years in the NBA, averaging 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game defending the jersey of the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings and Spurs.

The new Celtics coach, with a Nigerian passport, also tried his luck in the Endesa League in two different stages. First in 2004 in the ranks of Gran Canaria (15 games in which he averaged 8.7 points and four rebounds) and in 2012 wearing the uniform of the UCAM Murcia (19 games; 12.1 points and 4.7 rebounds) before returning to the NBA to retire with the San Antonio jersey.

Udoka, who had already sounded for benches like that of the Chicago Bulls or Portland, assume the controls of the Celtics ship and become the eighteenth Celtics coach in its 75-year history.
