National Stadium Sports Park receives historic investment in Sports infrastructure with a view to STGO 2023

With a view to the 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago, the venue will have the largest investment since its construction in 1938. The works of the National Stadium Sports Park contemplate a historic investment of 154 million dollars, this being the great sports legacy of the government of the President Sebastián Piñera.

The Ministry of Sports is part of the Step by Step Chile Se Recupera Economic Reactivation Plan, with 43 sports infrastructure works throughout the country. Among these initiatives is the National Stadium Sports Park, with the execution of 14 projects and which translates into almost 10,000 new jobs between 2020 and 2023.

The master plan designed by the Architect Teodoro Fernández, winner of the National Architecture Award, considers remodeled green areas for recreational sports, with jogging circuits, and bicycle lanes, in addition, for high-performance sports, new buildings and the improvement of some enclosures are added. existing.

Portfolio Minister Cecilia Pérez stated that it is “an honor and a tremendous challenge to renew the face of a historic site with as much significance for the country as the National Stadium. We have worked together with the sports world to design participatory projects with an international standard, and thus leave the largest sports park in South America as a legacy for citizens ”.

Pérez affirmed that they are working to live up to the “most important sporting event in our history”, such as the next Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago 2023.

The new venues for high-performance sports that are currently in full swing and according to the established deadlines are the following:

  • Lawn Hockey Training Center: project is under construction with 33% progress, and delivery is expected for the last quarter of 2021. The work includes 2 official fields, dressing rooms, weight and technical rooms, and sports equipment and doctor. This will be a Pan-American sports space that will give way to the first public courts for this sport.
  • Contact Sports Training Center: construction began during the month of June 2021 and delivery is expected for the last quarter of 2022. The following sports will be housed in this enclosure; judo, karate, wrestling and taekwondo. Within its 8,000 m2 built, there are 3 wrestling mats, 3 judo mats, 4 taekwondo mats and 4 karate mats.
  • Paralympic Training Center: construction began during the month of June 2021 and delivery is expected for the last quarter of 2022. Its 6,600 m2 were designed in an innovative and unique way in Chile allowing the development of 10 Paralympic sports.

At the same time, the Collective Sports Training Center (volleyball, handball, basketball) and the Urban Sports Esplanade (skate, bmx, 3×3 basketball, climbing) will be the new venues contemplated, which are in the design stage and will be construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2022.

The plan includes the improvement of existing sports venues, which are in the full design stage and construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2022. The Water Sports Training Center, the Athletics Training Center, the Tennis and Racket Sports Training Center and Skating Training Center are considered within the project.
