Munich European Championship games: organizers want clarity about spectators

With France, Portugal and Hungary, the DFB-Elf has no easy tasks ahead of them in the group games. However, the organizers at the city and in the Ministry of the Interior are also facing major challenges.

The new infection protection ordinance is crucial

Because even two weeks before the first game against France (June 15th at 9 pm) it is still unclear how many spectators will be allowed to attend the Allianz Arena. Whether there are 2,000, 5,000 or 14,000 fans on the pilgrimage to Fröttmaning plays a significant role, for example when it comes to which and how many means of transport should be used for transport and how many emergency services are required.

UEFA demands that at least 14,500 spectators must be in the stadium, as many tickets have been issued for the games so far. If fewer spectators are allowed, some tickets may have to be declared invalid and the ticket prices refunded. According to the current Bavarian Infection Protection Ordinance, only 250 spectators would be allowed, but the ordinance expires at the end of this week. A new edition must be decided by the state government, it will then probably be adapted to the lower incidence figures.

Emerging nervousness among those responsible

With every day that goes by without a decision, the preparation time also decreases. For example, Munich’s 3rd Mayoress Verena Dietl (SPD / Volt), who runs the business during Mayor Dieter Reiter’s vacation, finally calls for clarity: “We have prepared different hygiene concepts and are now waiting every day for instructions from the state government so that we can then also in implementation can go. “

The Bavarian State Association of the German Police Union (DpolG) also warns that coordinated deployment concepts are now urgently needed and the DFB also wants a quick decision. Munich is the only one of the eleven venues where the size of the fan blocks in the stadium is still unclear. All others have already been decided: The range extends from 11,250 spectators in Copenhagen to a maximum of 31,000 spectators in Baku.

Decision expected on Friday

It looks like everyone, from the fan to the operations manager, will have to wait until Friday. Then the state government decides on the new edition of the Infection Protection Ordinance and the associated, further relaxations.
