Emotional farewell to Emma Roca

The esplanade located in front of l‘church of Talló, in Bellver de Cerdanya, hosted this Sunday the farewell ceremony in Emma Roca, a pioneer in the world of mountain racing in Catalonia and also the first woman to join the Special Actions Group (GRAE) of the Generalitat Fire Brigade, where she worked in La Seu d’Urgell

More than 400 people attended the tribute, including colleagues such as Núria Picas from Manresa and former footballer and football coach Juan Carlos Unzué, who met her and held parliaments to remember her. The event was also attended by representatives of the Fire Department, who paid tribute to him by taking off one of the GRAE helicopters.

Roca died on June 18 from not overcoming an illness that had kept her hospitalized during her last weeks of life. In addition to excelling in sports as a participant in triathlons, duathlons, ironmans, marathons and mountain ultramarathons, mountain biking, downhill skiing and adventure raids, a discipline in which he won a world championship, Roca also went excel in business.

She had recently been appointed president of the Incorpora’m user and worker cooperative, which promotes labor and social integration in the Cerdanya region.
