Like Siniakova, Kerber also had to work a double shift on Friday after her scheduled quarter-finals against Amanda Anisimova (USA) had to be postponed due to continuous rain on Thursday. “I can’t remember the last time I played two matches in one day,” said 33-year-old Kerber.

“I’m looking forward to the match”

Against Anisimova, Kerber was in good shape and went through a round with a 2: 6, 6: 3, 6: 3. “I’m glad that I turned the match around and can play here again tonight,” said Kerber, who showed in the oldest tennis club on the European mainland that her form curve was steep after a disappointing first half of the season before Wimbledon start on Monday pointing up.

The anticipation of meeting Kvitova was great. “I’m looking forward to the match, I’ll take it in preparation for Wimbledon,” said Kerber. At first she lost her joy. Because Kvitova came into the game better and certainly got the first set.

Kerber’s well-known fighter heart

But again Kerber proved her well-known fighter heart and struck back in a good-class game with powerful tennis. After 2:04 hours, the Kiel woman rewarded herself for her efforts and turned her second match ball against the two-time Wimbledon winner.

Kerber’s last tournament victory so far was the triumph on the “holy lawn” of Wimbledon 2018, since September 2019 in Osaka / Japan she had not reached a semi-finals.

Siegemund is out

Meanwhile, Laura Siegemund has missed another sense of achievement in preparation for Wimbledon. Before the Kerber match, the 33-year-old lost 5-7, 4-6 against the unseeded Czech Katerina Siniakova and was eliminated in the quarter-finals. Siniakova also won the semi-finals on Friday afternoon against the Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo 6: 2, 6: 4 and thus moved into the final (Saturday, 1 p.m.).

The Metzinger Siegemund was placed eighth at the premiere in Bad Homburg and was the second German quarter-finalist next to Kerber. From Monday it goes for the world number 55. at the Grand Slam classic Wimbledon. There Siegemund meets Jekaterina Alexandrowa from Russia, who is seeded at position 32.
