But last year, top-class sport took place more or less “behind closed doors”, and popular sport came to a complete standstill. Nevertheless, the athletes from the region again showed excellent performances in the few competitions in the previous year, which the district now duly honored at the athletes’ honor.

In a comparatively rigid frame

District administrator Martin Neumeyer (CSU) had invited a number of top athletes from the Kelheim district to the district office on Friday afternoon to congratulate them on their outstanding achievements at the state and national level. What is usually a happy get-together for young people, this time had to take place in a comparatively rigid framework due to the general circumstances. At least the atmosphere was right on this summer day in the Donaupark at the foot of the Liberation Hall. The congratulations to the athletes between Altmhltal and Hallertau also came from BLSV district chairman Erich Schneider, who, as always, had helped to prepare the award.

Manuel Scheibel celebrated the greatest success among the honored athletes. The judoka from TSV Abensberg became the German men’s champion. Actually, he and his teammate Sebastian Seidl should be standing next to District Administrator Neumeyer and the BLSV district chairman for the winning photo, but Seidl is already on the trip to Tokyo and is currently in training camp with the German national judo team.

Even without one of their two figureheads, the judokas from the Aventinus city provided a strong troop at the athlete ceremony as always. For example, the young fighters Magnus Trauner, Alexander Brger and Dimitra Sioka celebrated Bavarian championships with the U15, the latter also took silver with the South German team. In the U18 age group, Maximilian Felde, Franziska Neubauer and Dionisios Soikas played at the state championship, the latter two also finished second in the South German team. Raffaela Igl took home the German U21 runner-up, Michael Weber came second in the U21 South German Championship, Fabian Popitschko was Bavarian U21 champion, and Jasmin Lochen, second in Bavaria in the U18.

The fistballers from TV Herrnwahlthann were among the big winners at the athletes’ awards this year. In the past indoor season, the boys of the U12 won silver at the Bavarian championship, the boys of the U14 won gold on the same level and came fourth in southern Germany. The girls of the U14 came back with the title from the Bavarian and silver from the South German championship. The female U16 managed the runner-up title on the state level and fourth place on the southern German level. The ladies of the fistball players on TV Herrnwahlthann became champions in the Bavarian League on the field.

Two Bavarian champions from Sportfreunde Essing

German runner-up in the U20 long jump indoors and outdoors as well as Bavarian champion in the same indoor and outdoor discipline are the successes of Simon Batz, who competes in the jersey of Sportfreunde Essing. His club mate and middle distance athlete Susanne Brnnig won the Bavarian U23 championship title over 1500 meters.

District Administrator Neumeyer congratulated the two mini golfers Bernhard Lindner and Christian Schubert from the 1st Lower Bavarian Mini Golf Club in Kelheim for their appointment to the senior national team.

As part of the athlete’s ceremony, the shooters will of course also be on the podium. From the royal-privileged Zimmerstutzengesellschaft Bad Abbach the revolver gunner Anton Englbrecht came with two second places in the national championship in long distance shooting and the pistol shooter Georg Schmidbauer with a first place in the same competition. Manfred Gschwendner achieved first place in the state championship in shooting targets with a revolver. The pistol shooter Sebastian Oudes came from the health resort with a second place at the state championship in speed shooting, as well as Klaus Schindlbeck, who took bronze with a self-loading shotgun in the federal cup shooting target.

The fire protection company Abensberg had reported the multiple Bavarian champion with pistol and revolver, Tobias Hollmann, and Andrea Blaschke as second with revolver and pistol at the state level for the athlete honor.

Despite the strict lockdown, the recreational athletes performed great for much of the past season. They include the participants in the annual sports badge campaign. At the athlete’s honor, you have to do 25 repetitions and then all five further exams. The front runner was Anneliese Lindner from ATSV Kelheim with 35 repetitions. Your club mates Rita Rosner and Helmut Wagner have completed the Olympics of normal Otto athletes 30 and 25 times respectively. DK
