Judoka Theresa Stoll wins bronze at the World Championships in Budapest

Judoka Theresa Stoll won bronze at the World Championships in Budapest and thus gave the German Judo Association (DJB) its first medal in the title competitions in Hungary’s capital. The 25-year-old from TSV Großhadern defeated the dethroned world champion Christa Deguchi from Canada in extra time with a golden score in the fight for third place in the class up to 57 kg.

For the two-time vice-European champion it was the first precious metal at a World Cup, in 2018 in Baku she was fifth. At the same time, the medical student underlined her medal ambitions for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. With one bronze medal, the German team in Budapest has already achieved its minimum goal and equalized the result of the 2019 World Cup in Tokyo.

Previously, Stoll had lost in the quarter-finals to Deguchi’s compatriot Jessica Klimkait on Tuesday, but then fought for the medal chance in the hope round with a victory over Russian Anastasija Konkina.
