Judo World Championships: Japan again and again

History repeats itself in Budapest in the grand finale of the Judo World Championships. On the final day dedicated to team tests, the winner of all time wins: Japan.

As already on the occasion of the 2018 editions in Baku and 2019 in Tokyo, the flag of the Rising Sun waving on the top step of the podium. A “déjà vu” that also affects the opposing team. Finalist and loser in all three editions: the French team.

At the world championships with a team made up of established athletes and new generation judo, France had focused on names such as those of the world number 2 in the -70kg category, Marie-Eve Gahié and on emerging stars such as 21-year-old Francis Damier.

4-0, the result that earned Japan the triumph, victorious in the fights in the categories -73kg and -90kg men, and -70kg and + 70kg women.

The bronze medals won by the Brazilian teams, who won 4-2 over that of the Russian Judo Federation, and that of Uzbekistan, which managed to prevail against Korea, complete the palmares, on the lowest step of the podium. Brazil thus confirms the same placement, which two years ago had obtained at the World Cup in Tokyo.
