French Open: Kevin Krawietz fails in the double quarter-finals

Kevin Krawietz was eliminated in doubles in the quarterfinals of the French Open. The 29-year-old defending champion lost the quarter-finals in Paris against the two-time Grand Slam winners Juan Sebastián Cabal / Robert Farah (Colombia) 2: 6, 7: 6 (7: 3), 5: 7 alongside the Romanian Horia Tecău . For Krawietz it was the first defeat ever in the 16th match at Roland Garros.

The ninth seeded Krawietz / Tecău slept through the start and were quickly 4-0 down. After that, they delivered a match on equal terms to their opponents, who had won Wimbledon and the US Open in 2019. In the decisive set, Krawietz and Tecău took a 4-2 lead, but the Colombians came back with a run of twelve points in a row and won the match after 2:29 hours.

Together with Andreas Mies, Krawietz won the French Open in 2019 and 2020. This year, however, he had to do without his usual partner, Mies had an operation on his knee in February. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo (from July 23), Krawietz will probably serve alongside Jan-Lennard Struff.
