French Open 2021: Next favorite is eliminated

The circle of favorites at the French Open continues to thin out. The Belarusian Sabalenka was defeated by the Russian Pavlyuchenkova in three sets.

At the French Open, the next favorite was caught in the women’s competition. World number four Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus lost on Friday in the third round against Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 4: 6, 6: 2, 0: 6 and thus has to wait for the breakthrough in a Grand Slam tournament.

Before Sabalenka, number three at the Stade Roland Garros, world number one Ashleigh Barty from Australia and four-time Grand Slam tournament winner Naomi Osaka from Japan had already left Paris early. Pavlyuchenkova will now face Victoria Asarenka from Belarus in the round of 16, who clearly won 6-2, 6-2 against Madison Keys from the USA.
