Eurocup would sanction players who reject Coca-Cola

The first week of the Euro was seriously impacted by what came after Cristiano Ronaldo removed some bottles of Coca-Cola from a press conference he gave last weekend. Since then, several more players replicated the Portuguese footballer’s gesture and even extended it to Heineken beer.

That is why Uefa, the governing body of European football and therefore of the Eurocup, expressed its concern about this type of gestures against the sponsors and reminded the players how important they are for the development of the competition. In the same way, it opened the possibility of sanctions against the teams of the players who continue this practice that made so much noise on social networks.

“Uefa will never sanction a player directly, we will always do it through the federations”, warned Martin Kallen, executive director of Events of the Uefa and director of the Eurocopa 2020, quoted by the newspaper Olé.

However, the manager also made a caveat: players who for religious reasons set aside a beer that they have in front of them will be exempt from these eventual penalties.

That was the case of Paul Pogba, a French midfielder who converted to Islam years ago, religion that prohibits the consumption of intoxicants, such as alcoholic beverages.

In defense of the main sponsors of the Euro, Kallen noted: “Uefa has reminded the participating teams that sponsors are essential for the realization of the tournament and to ensure the development of football throughout Europe, including for youth and football. feminine”.
