“We played well. There were some mistakes in defense and attack, but we looked much better than against Slovakia,” said Lewandowski. “The difference was that in the first match we focused on things that didn’t work. But we knew there would be a good defense against the Spaniards, and we did that. It worked,” said Bayern Munich’s gunner.

Lewandowski scored the 67th national team goal and became the first Pole to score at three European championships. “He just knows what will happen on the field and has a sense of smell. He is like a lion, a true leader,” German coach Jürgen Klinsmann told the BBC.

EURO 2021

The European Football Championship, which was originally scheduled to be played a year ago, it starts on June 11 and ends on July 11. EURO is hosted by eleven countries, the Czech national football team is in group D together with England, Croatia and Scotland. The championship finale is played at the legendary Wembley.

According to the FIFA poll for 2020, the coach of the Polish team Paulo Sousa also appreciated the contribution of the best footballer in the world. “He fought on the field, won duels, ran, recorded and captured everyone with his energy. When you have one of the best players in the world on the team, it has a great influence on the team and thanks to him, the team is stronger as a whole,” said Sousa.

The Poles lost the first match with Slovakia 1: 2, however, on Saturday they managed to repel the sixth team in the world rankings and scored with it only for the third time in history. In the match with three-time European champions, they also managed to react to the unfavorable development of the match, when the favorite took the lead after a hit by Álvaro Morata. After Lewandowski’s equalizer, the Poles survived a penalty kick by Gerard Moren, who hit the post.

“We had a difficult task ahead of us, but we did not stop believing. Even though some people in Poland already thought it was over, we showed that it was not so. It may seem late, but I believe that for us the championship is just beginning, “said Kamil Glik defender on the UEFA website.

In the final match of Group E, the Poles will fight for hope for advancing with the Swedes, who lead the group with four points. If they win, the team around Lewandowski would not only catch up to them, but would also have a better match.

“We will not be favorites against the Swedes. They have a lot of good players and it will be a very difficult match. However, we will be ready for them and the match against Spain has given us a lot,” said Lewandowski. “If we managed to play like this against one of the best teams in the world, such as Spain, then we can show it in every match,” said Sousa.
