The England national team is the only team that still has a clean sheet at Euro 2020. Harry Maguire also gave special praise to the Three Lions goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford.
England won 2-0 against Germany in the round of 16 of Euro 2020. In the match at Wembley, Tuesday (29/6/2021) evening WIB, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane were the decisive winners for the Three Lions.
Sterling’s goal was created in the 75th minute following a pass from Luke Shaw. While Kane’s goal was recorded 11 minutes later maximizing feedback from Jack Grealish.
Prior to that, Pickford had made several saves. Timo Werner’s kick in the 31st minute could be blocked by the Everton goalkeeper. Then, Kai Havertz’s long-range shot in the 47th minute was pushed past the goal.
With a clean sheet this time, Pickford and England are the only ones who are still clean of a record of conceding in 4 matches at Euro 2020.
Previously, England won 1-0 over Croatia and the Czech Republic. In one other match, England played a goalless draw against Scotland.
The UEFA website noted that Pickford had made 7 saves in 4 England matches at Euro 2020. The 27-year-old goalkeeper’s performance was also praised.
“First and foremost, Jordan has been outstanding in every game he has played for England and he deserves the credit he deserves after this game,” Maguire said as reported by the BBC.
“He’s under a lot of pressure, goalkeeper playing as England’s number one is probably the most highlighted position out there.”
“It’s nice to keep a clean sheet, that’s what we have to do here. It’s not a defence, it’s a unit,” the Manchester United defender added.
