DOSB: President Alfons Hörmann is not running for re-election

President Alfons Hörmann clears the way for new candidates in the DOSB’s leadership crisis. Like Vice President Kaweh Niroomand, the 60-year-old will no longer stand for election at the regular general meeting of the German Olympic Sports Confederation. His term of office therefore ends after eight years.

With the announcement of new elections, the umbrella organization of German sports is now adhering to the recommendations of the ethics committee, which had advised them to do so in the Hörmann letter affair.

Initially, the DOSB had envisaged a vote of confidence in the presidium members in September and was criticized for it by athletes, politicians and the state sports federations. Now came the turning point. Recently it had already been indicated that the DOSB is ready to give in and wanted to discuss the recommendations of the ethics committee again.

The leadership crisis came to the public through an anonymous letter, which presumably came from the workforce of the association. In the letter, the author (s) made explicit allegations against Hörmann for poor leadership skills (“culture of fear”). The letter speaks of a lack of respect and fair play towards association employees.
