College player Sang Ho Baek died after Tommy John

A freshman at George Mason University, Sang Ho Baek, died on Saturday after undergoing Tommy John surgery, a surgery common among MLB players.

The death of the 20-year-old player was confirmed by his teammate, Scott Morgan.

Sang Ho Baek was a pitcher and a campaign had been created on a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his elbow intervention. It was through this page that the complications he suffered after the surgery were reported.

“After battling injuries all season, Sang required Tommy John surgery,” Morgan, an outfielder for George Mason’s team, wrote in the GoFundMe statement.

“He passed away suddenly due to complications from his surgery. As a team, we are all mourning his passing.”

What is known so far is that Baek, who played seven games for the Patriots this season, had a blood clot while recovering from the surgical procedure.
