Cases of COVID-19 within the Spanish selection, a problem for the Euro?

As the 2021 Women’s EuroBasket kicks off this Thursday, the specter of COVID-19 is still present. This Sunday, the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) announced that two of its players, Alba Torrens and Tamara Abalde, were tested positive this Saturday. The rest of the delegation, who live in a sanitary bubble with training partners, took a new PCR test on Sunday and all came back negative. The preparation match against Italy was nevertheless canceled.

At present, the Federation does not know if it will have to replace the two asymptomatic players. Alba Torrens, absent in 2019 but best player of the Euro in 2017, is one of the leaders of the workforce.

Regarding the Strasbourg hens, the selections are about to arrive and integrate the health bubble. Belgium, coming as a neighbor, does not deplore a case of COVID-19.
