Bottas no longer understands: “I can’t go faster”

Although the third qualifying session was hardly anyone to write home about, Valtteri Bottas had a very dramatic Q3. The Finn had to give his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton a tow so that he could set a faster lap.

Bottas himself was unable to set a good, timed lap. “I can’t go faster. If I try, I’ll hang in the wall,” says the Fin. “It’s a little crazy.”

However, Bottas knows how to be faster, he says, but something is not right. “I know what it feels like to be on the limit. I was on that too. But I think something is wrong, because I can’t go faster.”

Still, the Finn is hopeful for Sunday. “Something always happens here. A few years ago, for example, I was last and suddenly I was second. Things can happen and we will try to take our chance.”
