Basketball takes to new heights in Paris

Several courts will be renovated for basketball fans as part of hosting the 2024 Olympic Games, but also to develop new uses (women’s basketball, health basketball, inclusive basketball, etc.). Nine renovations are planned for 2021, including that of the Vincent Auriol physical education field (13th), designed by the artist L’Atlas.

Notice to fans of dribbling and “dunks”! A new 3×3 basketball court is accessible, free access, 7 days a week, to practitioners from June 8. Meet near the Chevaleret metro station on the Vincent Auriol physical education field (TEP) at 61, boulevard Vincent-Auriol (13e).

Funded by the Caisse d’Epargne within the framework of its useful Pact, this project was carried out with the support of the Etendart association, which supports young people for access to sport, education and the creative arts through integration programs, in partnership with the town hall of 13e arrondissement and the French Basketball Federation (FFBB).

A legacy for the basketball community

This rehabilitation is part of the City’s legacy program to support the hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024. Objective: to provide Parisians with better access to outdoor sports, particularly in neighborhoods popular, while creating a dialogue between art and sport with the intervention of international and local artists, committed to the territory they represent.

The City of Paris and the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) now wish to build a common heritage for the community of Parisian basketball players.

Several other sites in the capital will therefore be renovated as part of a partnership with the FFBB. Nine renovations are planned for 2021, i.e. 15 new rehabilitated 3×3 lots:

  • 2 fields on the TEP Léo-Lagrange (12e) ;

  • 1 field on the TEP Parc Montsouris (14e) ;

  • 3 sites on the TEP of the Docteur-Calmette square (15e) ;

  • 1 field within the Jardins d’Éole (18e) ;

  • 1 lot in Square Charles Hermite (18e) ;

  • 3 courts within the Jules Ladoumègue Sports Center (19e) ;

  • 2 sites on the TEP Sérurier (19e) ;

Two other sports and artistic renovations, financed under the participatory budget, will also be carried out in 2021:

What objectives for these renovations?

  • Develop basketball in Paris, in particular the new Olympic discipline: 3×3, by renovating the practice areas (floors and panels);

  • Embellish the Parisian territory by creating an artistic work on the grounds;

  • Bring together affiliated basketball clubs and groups and local associations to animate the fields and develop new actions (women’s basketball, healthy basketball, inclusive basketball, etc.).
