Arnautovic comes under fire and reacts: ‘I’M NOT A RACIST’

Marko Arnautovic is under fire in the Serbian media. According to Informer, a major newspaper in Serbia, the Austrian has been guilty of racism against North Macedonia. Arnautovic vehemently denies.

Arnautovic scored against North Macedonia on Sunday, after which he let himself go and had to be calmed by teammate David Alaba. According to Informer, Arnautovic said “i n**k your Albanian mother‘ to Egzon Bejtulaj, who has Albanian roots.

Arnautovic used according to Informer however, not the word ‘Albanian’, but ‘Shiptar-mutter ‘. siptar is a racist term for Albanians. Arnautovic and Bejtulaj are said to have clashed during the match. Arnautovic’s family is from Serbia by the way.

Arnautovic comes a day later with clarification. “I want to apologize for some heated moments during the match,” he wrote on Instagram. ‘Certainly towards my friends from North Macedonia and Albania. I want to make one thing clear: I’M NOT A RACIST! I have friends almost all over the world and I stand for diversity. Everyone who knows me knows this.’
