Absolute dominance! deGrom continues to amaze

Five days after leaving his last start due to sore right shoulder, deGrom returned to the mound looking like oak to lead the Mets’ 4-2 victory over the Braves in the first of a doubleheader.

He retired the first eight batters he faced and finished with five scoreless innings overall.

The only hit deGrom was connected to was a Kevan Smith fly between center and left that fell between outfielders Dominic Smith and Albert Almora Jr., who both had a chance to make the play.

deGrom couldn’t have thrown a no-hitter, no-run game, anyway, as seven-inning no-hitters don’t count in the official record book.

But it was nonetheless a remarkable moment for deGrom, who extended his string of no-run innings to 30 and posted a microscopic 0.50 ERA.

According to Sarah Langs of MLB.com, deGrom’s 0.50 ERA after his first 12 starts of the season is the best for a starter since earned runs became an official statistic in both leagues in 1913.
