Aboutaleb cancels Feyenoord City meeting due to ‘signals of threats’ Inland

Tonight’s political meeting on Feyenoord City in town hall has been suspended by order of Mayor Aboutaleb ‘due to signals received about threats and intimidation’.

The municipality will let you know about an hour before the meeting was to start. Among others, Feyenoord director Mark Koevermans would explain to council members, and also an investor in Feyenoord City. The planned consultation moments for the coming days, where Rotterdammers can give their opinion about a new Feyenoord stadium, have also been cancelled. “Despite everything that has been done to make the democratic process at city hall as safe as possible, not everyone involved feels free to express their views on decision-making about Feyenoord City,” said the mayor.

Threatened and intimidated

Aboutaleb points out that in recent weeks, in the run-up to the decision-making process surrounding Feyenoord City, various stakeholders have been threatened and intimidated. “This is intolerable.”

The triangle – mayor, police chief and chief public prosecutor – is determined to take firm action to ensure that the democratic process continues, the municipality said. “The mayor, together with the presidium of the city council, is considering next steps for the coming weeks.”

This weekend, the homes of some supporters of Feyenoord City, including director Koevermans and architect Ard Buijsen, were attacked.
