275 cases in 5 million vaccinations: possible connection between myocarditis and Biontech vaccine – knowledge

Israel sees a possible link between Biontech / Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine and cases of myocarditis. Among the more than five million people vaccinated, 275 cases of myocarditis occurred between December and May, according to the Israeli Ministry of Health.

An investigation came to the conclusion that there was a possible connection between the second dose and myocarditis in men between the ages of 16 and 30.

This was observed more frequently in 16 to 19-year-old men than in other age groups. Israel approved vaccination for 12 to 15-year-olds nonetheless and plans to start vaccination next week, Israeli pandemic control coordinator Nachman Asch told 103 FM on Wednesday. “The benefits outweigh the risks.”

Pfizer said the company was aware of the findings from Israel. So far, however, no causal link between the vaccine and myocarditis has been established. So far, no higher rate of myocardial inflammation has been observed than would have been expected in the general population.

Side effects of the vaccination are closely monitored, and Pfizer is in regular contact with the vaccine safety division of the Israeli Ministry of Health to review the data. The Israeli Ministry of Health announced in late April that it was investigating cases of myocarditis related to the vaccination. (Reuters)
