The French women’s team will go to eight with a vacant place and without Fanny Posvite at the world championships

After the injury of Hélène Receveaux which left a free place in the selection for the world championships, there was a slight hope for the Limougeaude Fanny Posvite to be selected. He was showered by coach Larbi Benboudaoud on Thursday noon, at the start of the press conference presenting the event: “We will go to Budapest (June 6 to 13) with eight girls”.

« Team strategy », argues the coach

The French coach justified this choice by evoking a team strategy: “We have always said that we do not put two Olympic selected (the holder and the substitute, Editor’s note) in the same selection. We had to do it with Shirine Boukli in -48 kg for the Worlds so that she would once again be seeded for the Olympic Games, but we did not wish to deviate from this strategy that had been in place for several months. It’s hard but when you gain height, it’s the principle of an elitist system ”.

Fanny Posvite (Alliance Judo Limoges) will therefore be the only French reservist for the Olympics not to compete in the world championships.

By obtaining 12 medals in 14 international outings, the 29-year-old Limougeaude, who recently finished third in the European Championships and is ranked 4th in the world, felt that she deserved her selection wishing at all costs to make the kimono shine at all costs. he France team for its world debuts in its new category (-78 kg). However, the coach believes that the world champion Madeleine Malonga should not suffer from Franco-French competition in -78 kg.

The person concerned also commented on this decision: “At no time did I ask that Fanny, who is a very good friend, does not compete in the world championships. I am not the one who decides. They are the breeders. This is not of my resort. The only thing I wanted was to make these worlds ”.

« Fanny is irreproachable »

Unless the French Federation is forced to select it (there was a conciliation at the CNOSF), these declarations come to end long weeks of incomprehension, despondency and hopes for Fanny Posvite, reigning French champion, which was expressed at length after the “Europe”. “I understand his arguments, this is part of the complicated decisions to make,” commented Larbi Benboudaoud. Even if I try to show empathy, it’s difficult for an athlete to see the big picture ”

Does this decision mark a halt in Fanny Posvite’s career when she arguably practiced the best judo of her life? “I do not think that this puts a brake on his career, answers his former coach. Fanny is irreproachable, no one will question her commitment, neither the coaches nor her colleagues in the France team. That’s why it’s all the harder. We do not question our support in its performance project, we will keep it in the team ”.

While she could dream of a world podium, how will the one who is celebrating her 29th birthday this Thursday?
