NBA locks viewers after multiple attacks on players

The fans of the North American basketball league NBA have only just been allowed back into the halls. Although still partially Covid-regulated and subject to vaccination requirements, there is still a different atmosphere in the playoffs after more than a year without spectators. In two cases, however, the mood has turned into open attacks against players. As a result, two viewers have now been excluded for an indefinite period.

The spectator was banned from the stadium for an indefinite period, as the 76ers announced. “We apologize to Russell Westbrook and the Washington Wizards for this disrespectful and unacceptable behavior. There is no room for that in our sport or in our hall, ”the club continued.

The New York Knicks, in turn, banned a spectator who spat at Atlanta Hawks professional Trae Young. This case was less clear because the action could not be clearly seen on the TV pictures either.

The Knicks, however, spread this statement: “We investigated the case and came to the conclusion that this viewer, who does not have a season ticket, actually spat on Trae Young. For this reason he is being expelled from our hall indefinitely. ”Here, too, an apology followed.

Both cases occurred on Wednesday. There was even a third incident on the same day. This was apparently about verbal abuse of spectators in the hall of the Utah Jazz during the game against Memphis. Three people were banned from the house, the exact circumstances are unclear.

Commenting on the cluster of incidents, the league said: “The return of more NBA fans to our arenas has brought great joy and energy to the start of the playoffs, but it is critical that we all show respect for players, officials and other fans.” The NBA announced on Thursday: “An improved code of conduct for fans will be vigorously enforced to ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone.”
