Emilio Ferrera leaves Seraing for Ghent: “I ended up in Disneyland” | Jupiler Pro League

PhD candidate Seraing will start his first-class adventure without trainer Emilio Ferrera next season. Ferrera leaves Seraing and moves to AA Ghent for 2 years, where he will be responsible for the Ghent youth academy.

“Emilio Ferrera has accepted our offer and we are very honored to do so,” beams CEO Michel Louwagie. “I never thought that he would take the step from Seraing to AA Gent, but today we can introduce him anyway.”

Ferrera will be the new ‘head of football formation’ in Ghent and will be responsible for the follow-up of the Ghent youth players. “We think Emilio Ferrera is the perfect man for this,” says Louwagie.

“He is a football animal, has mastered the methodology, was a coach in many top clubs and believes that the youth should be able to train in the same way as the professional football players”, Louwagie continues. “Well, that was music to our ears”

“Emilio Ferrera is still young at 53 years old. Yet he is already making the step to the youth work. Usually it is the other way around and youth coaches are eager to advance to the first team.”

“That is not the case with him, by the way, he has already experienced that period at top clubs. The cooperation with his academy (EF Academy, ed.) Will also give us some extra opportunities to recruit players.”

“I don’t like media attention, packed stadiums, etc. I prefer to work in the shade.”

“I had wanted to do this job for years, but there had never been a really concrete proposal. Now I am. I am really looking forward to this opportunity,” Ferrera explains his switch.

“Sometimes you have to make difficult choices and leave at the right time. That’s what I do now after my promotion with Seraing. Ghent offered me this great project that suited me perfectly. I don’t like media attention, packed stadiums and so on. I prefer to work in the shade. “

“You have everything in Ghent. The management is great, everything is there to do a good job. The club has a beautiful training complex and a fantastic stadium. I ended up in Disneyland, so to speak.”
