David Cabello, re-elected to the Executive of the World Badminton Federation

The teacher of the Department of Physical and Sports Education of the UGR, a specialist in sports management and direction, will continue as a member of the Executive Committee of the World Badminton Federation (BWF) for the next cycle 2021-2025.

David Cabello has renewed his presence on the Executive Committee of the Badminton World Federation, the highest body of world badminton. This is the fourth cycle in which he has been part of it, since he acceded to it in 2009, occupying since then the position of president of the Committee for Development and Sports for All and of the Commission for sports science and medical research.

The general assembly of Badminton World Federation (BWF), held virtually, faced the renewal of the governing bodies, supporting the candidacy of David Cabello in a majority with the endorsement, among others, of the two most important national organizations of the world badminton like Badminton China and Badminton Japan. The session also saw the re-election of International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Poul-Erik Høyer Larsen as BWF president for the next four years, with the former Olympic champion at Atlanta 1996 facing his third term.

For the 2021-2025 cycle, BWF projects the continuity of a successful model that has taken badminton from the fifth and last level to the second in the ranking that the International Olympic Committee divides Olympic sports. “In the last 11 years we have developed tools of great potential aimed at the universality of the values ​​and benefits of sport, delving into the vision of the BWF, which is to give each child the opportunity to play for life” remarked Cabello after his election .

Research and innovation in badminton and sports science have been a constant at the UGR, which has materialized in recent years in the creation of the Ebone-UGR Sports Innovation Chair, directed by Professor David Cabello.
