Archers return to competition

After a white year 2020, practically without training, on Saturday May 29, the Condomois were in charge, with the Gers departmental archery committee (CDTA 32), the organization of a mixed competition at 50 meters.

After the warm-up ends in the morning, a well-deserved lunch break, the group matches took place from 2 p.m. in the afternoon. The results came in around 5 p.m.

Almost all the clubs in the department had answered the call of the CDTA 32 for this competition which, usually, also took place indoors with an indoor part at 18 meters. This year, because of Covid-19, only the outdoor competition remains. The targets on the historic land of the Condomois, at Chemin de l’Argenté in Gauge, are placed at 50 meters – 20 meters for the neo-licensees and the youngest.

The clubs involved : L’Arc Auscitain, Les Archers de la Save, de Samatan and Lombez, La Flèche Gasconne, at Isle-Jourdain, Plaisance Tir Sportif, Arc’Magnac, at Nogaro and Les Archers de la Hire.

The competing teams : eight classic teams – four compound teams and one young team.

The new president and captain of the Archers de la Hire, Damien Laurier, the umpire, Jérôme Tarbouriech, and the president of the Gers archery departmental committee, Dominique Cadeillan.

All three explain to us the course of the competition … Not necessarily easy to understand for the uninitiated, but in summary: first, three ends of training. The time is doubled, from 80 seconds, it goes to 160 seconds to shoot the four arrows of a pair, or two arrows per shooter.

To comply with health standards, archers are separated by a distance of 1.50 meters, with marks visible on the ground, on the shooting range,

After the warm-up, the qualifying shots follow in five ends.

In the afternoon, it is a question of making the group matches; at their end, the best of each pool switch to the last stage of the competition, the shoot-off.

And the competition ends with the “Big shoot off”!

The juniors of the local club, Jules Brun and Solene Bibaut. With Adèle Jean dit Teyssier and Brice Bibaut, they represented Les Archers de la Hire.

To win, you need to have high-performance equipment, good technique and an eye!

This must certainly have been the case with the Auscitan pair who won the day’s event:

Séverine Chevret and Emmanuel Dupuis.

The day ended with the presentation of a bronze medal from the leader of the FFTA to Bernard Delaère for his ten years in the service of the Condom club, but still omnipresent since he is still vice-president and first lieutenant of the Condom archers. .
