Visual Judo from Quindío prepares for upcoming competitions – La Crónica del Quindío

Looking to the future, the group hopes to participate in the 2023 National and Paranational Sports Games.

The Quindío Judo League has 4 athletes in its visual judo team: Jhonatan Estiven Velasco Blandón, Cristian Camilo Orozco Escárraga, María Fernanda Zapata Manjarrés and Andrea Orozco Escárraga.

The group of athletes has stood out at the regional and national level. In the last Paranational Games, 2 judokas won the first bronze medals for the department in the discipline.

The first was Cristian Camilo Orozco Escárraga and then it was the turn of Jhonatan Estiven Velasco Blandón, who has also been in national and international competitions.

After this came the pandemic and the training was transferred to digital platforms that have been key to not completely lose the competitive notion. Since October they have resumed their training sessions at the Café de Armenia Coliseum, which they arrive 3 to 4 times a week with their own resources and sometimes with the financial support of their coach, Juan Manuel González, who has been there for 3 years. at the command of the selected one and who hopes to take them to participate in competitions of international stature.

The group is preparing to participate in the month of April in the national games, organized by the Colombian Federation of Visually Impaired.

There, María Fernanda Zapata Manjarrés could obtain a place for the Youth Pan American Games, which will be held in Bogotá in November.

After these events and with a view to the future, the group hopes to participate in the 2023 National and Paranational Sports Games.
