Tony Trabert († 90): US tennis legend is dead

US sport mourns Tony Trabert. The five-time Grand Slam winner died at the age of 90. He was successful in both singles and doubles.

The USA mourn their former tennis star Tony Trabert. The five-time winner of Grand Slam tournaments died on Wednesday at the age of 90, according to the ATP.

Trabert had won the US Open in 1953, the French Open in 1954 and, in his heyday 1955, the US Open, French Open and Wimbledon.

He won a further five Grand Slam events in doubles, mostly alongside Vic Seixas. From 2001 to 2011 Trabert presided over the Hall of Fame of Tennis in Newport / Rhode Island.
