Co-leader after 54 holes, Patrick Reed took advantage of the collapse of opposite Carlos Ortiz in the fourth round to win the PGA Farmers Insurance Open on Sunday in San Diego.

The American handed in a 68 card, four under par, to finish with a cumulative 274 (-14) and a high priority of five. The 30-year-old has pocketed his ninth career victory on the professional circuit.

Reed notably excelled at the sixth flag, a par 5, where he did an eagle. The 30-year-old golfer has committed a single bug.

The victory comes a day after the champion created some controversy. On Saturday on the course of the 10th pennant, Reed sent his ball into the tall grass. He requested and obtained relief without penalty because the object had sunk into the ground.

However, the video replay showed that his ball rebounded once. Despite this the officials allowed him to move the object, which angered more than one.

“I held on mentally and stayed the course. With everything that happened yesterday [samedi]… I felt good, I felt good all day. […] I was able to go there, get a good card and get the job done, ”said Reed, in an interview with the Golf Channel after his victory.

“I have already said all I have to say about what happened yesterday [samedi], added the winner. All I could do was focus on today [dimanche] and listen to what the regulators have said. They said I hadn’t done anything wrong. ”

The compatriots of Reed Xander Sc Chaudele (69), Tony Finau (69) and Ryan Palmer (70), the Swede Henrik Norlander (69) and the Norwegian Viktor Hovland (71) shared the second echelon. For his part, Ortiz (78) fell to the 29th level at 284 (-4). The Mexican totaled three birdies, but most importantly, seven bogueys and one double-boguey.

Among the Canadians, Adam Hadwin (71) finished in 18th place at 283 (-5). Corey Conners (70) and Roger Sloan (70) finished 37th and 53rd respectively with totals of 286 (-2) and 289 (+1).
