Dutch cyclist Jordi Slootjes (Team Smartdry) was the winner of the first edition of the Bellcaire social race of Empordà. In a 78 km race Slootjes was the fastest in the final sprint and finished the race with a time of 1:52:05, beating Pol Hervas (Team MP Group) and Marc Ortiz (Team MP Group ), who completed the podium. Ortiz, in addition, was the first classified one of the category sub-23.
The test meant the start of the 2021 calendar, and this meant that of the 191 cyclists who started, 42 had to give up due to lack of pace. Some of them tried to escape from the start, without success and in the end it was a total of 69 runners who they arrived in the last few miles with options of taking the victory and everything was decided in the sprint, with triumph for Slootjes.
On the other hand, victory in the women’s category fell into the hands by Elisabet Escursell, who completed the course with a time of 2:08:45.
