Here are the details of Ben Davies’ transfer to Liverpool

Preston agreed to release their center-back to Liverpool and borrow one of the youngsters from Anfield.

Peter Ridsdale, adviser to Preston North End club owners, spoke up about the deals that would fly ‘Rolls Royce’ Ben Davies to Liverpool and Sepp van den Berg in opposite directions.

A surprising deal between the Reds and Preston is currently in the works.

Jurgen Klopp’s desire to increase strength in the defensive sector has led the coach to the Championship team which opens up a chance for the 25-year-old player to strengthen the defending Premier League champions.

Ridsdale believes that Davies deserves the opportunity even though he has no experience in playing in the highest caste of English football.

“We are happy to have reached an agreement especially when we thought he was going to Celtic for free,” Ridsdale told talkSPORT about a defender whose contract expires in the summer.

“We also have investments in the future, because there is a sales clause.”

“The deal with Liverpool makes us happy and from a player’s point of view he is extraordinary and to have the opportunity to play for a club like Liverpool is brilliant.”

Ridsdale then added if Davies has the potential to shine in the Premier League.

“He’s an extraordinary young man. Humble and very professional,” he said.

“For our level he is a Rolls Royce. At the academy, I used to enjoy the action and he was always the best on the pitch.”

“Davies was then loaned out to York and Newport County, Fleetwood and accumulated experience before returning to strengthen us. He is now getting this opportunity. He’s a very good player.”

Preston is naturally disappointed to have lost Davies, but they have also made sure that they will not be short of players.

The approach to Dutch defender Van den Berg started before Liverpool came to ask Davies and now the 19-year-old will complete the 2020/21 season in the second tier of English football.

“We have completed negotiations to borrow one of their young players,” said Ridsdale.

“This is part of it because we asked for it. When all is done, we can borrow one player until the season ends.”
