Paulina Rodríguez has just signed for the Lobas de Aguascalientes, a team that opens the doors for her to fully enter professional basketball in her country.

23 years old and 1.80 meters tall, Paulina is a player whose performance with Western New Mexico University was noted in her years as a schoolboy, assuming responsibility as guard 1, 2 and 3. “And where they put me”, Paulina said this Thursday, in an exclusive interview for El Heraldo de Chihuahua.

“I am very excited – she said – it has always been my dream to play as a professional, I have dedicated my whole life to this moment.”

For Paulina it was not difficult to decide her future in Mexico and where to go. “I decided on Aguascalientes for several reasons. I already know the city, because I was in a concentration, the coach Israel Zermeño already knows me four years ago, I played under his direction in the youth national team, I know their methods, they also offered me a good deal, “said the native of Chihuahua capital.

The board of Lobas de Aguascalientes had Paulina contacted since last year and it was in December when they decided to hire her. Terms were not disclosed.

It was not the only team that wanted her, since Mieleras de Guanajuato and Mexaltecas de Nayarit were also in the bid for her services.

HOPES TO EARN YOUR PLACE

Paulina does not believe that she will arrive in Lobas with all the facilities to enter the first team.

“Well, you have to earn your place regardless of your career,” he says, “but I am confident that I will be a starter soon,” he says optimistically.

Fresh out of NCAA basketball and with her Psychology degree in hand, Paulina knows the challenge she faces in Mexican basketball. “It changes a lot from amateur to professional, no doubt; As a professional, you meet rivals with great physique, with more blows and more fang, but we are going to play anything ”, he warns.

Faced with this new challenge, Paulina is confident that what she learned in the NCAA will give her the strength to get ahead in Mexico. “For me the most important thing in the NCAA was the work ethic, the mentality and discipline that I acquired, that you carry for the rest of your career and your life,” he adds.

With the arrival of Paulina, there will be 10 Chihuahuas that will be participating this year in the LMBPF.

Jazmín Saad, Gabriela Saad and Daniela Saad, play for Escaramuzas Jalisco; Sofía Payán and Karla Aranda militate with Mexcaltecas de Nayarit; Paola Estrada with the Berreteras de Zacatecas, Gladiana Ávila with Aztks de México; Ivana Gutiérrez in Mieleras de Guanajuato; Ana Karen Bernal with the Mustangs of Saltillo and now Paulina, who joins the Lobas of Aguascalientes.

In January 2020, Paulina scored 26 points in one of her last games before saying goodbye to the NCAA, the highest score of her collegiate career.

If the date is not changed and if the pandemic situation allows it, it will be next March 27 when Paulina makes her official debut with the lycanthrope team in the LMBPF.
