Ask Resign, Andre Villas-Boas Instead Marseille fired

Jakarta

Andre Villas-Boas submitted a letter of resignation as coach of Marseille. But the French giant chose to fire him.

This unusual story began when Marseille recruited Celtic FC midfielder Olivier Ntcham. The 24-year-old French midfielder was brought off in the January transfer market on loan until the end of the season.

The problem is that Villas-Boas has not agreed to the loan, and has even rejected it. However, L’OM’s management is still adamant about taking it. This is what Villas-Boas didn’t like. He felt stepped over.

“It was not a decision I made. Specifically, I did not agree to recruit him. I did not realize it. I just found out about the recruitment this morning and read the news,” Villas-Boas said at a press conference on Tuesday (2/2/2021) .

“I have submitted my resignation, saying I do not agree with the club’s sporting strategy. The club board of directors did not ask for my final response (to the transfer).”

“I don’t want money, I just want to leave. The unwritten agreement about signing players has been broken. Over the past 2-3 years, this club has never been clear about dealing with transfers, and I can’t accept it,” said the Portuguese coach again. .

Instead of accepting Villas-Boas’ resignation letter, Marseille released him with disrespect. The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager is considered to have humiliated the club.

“This decision (dismissal) is inevitable, given the number of actions and attitudes that have damaged the name of Marseille and its employees who have fought every day to protect the club’s name,” wrote a Marseille statement, quoted by The Guardian.

“The comments made at the press conference regarding Pablo Longoria, Marseille’s director of football, are unacceptable. The extraordinary investment made by the club cannot be questioned, even this transfer was welcomed by all parties in the winter transfer market,” the statement continued.

Villas-Boas started coaching Marseille in the summer of 2019. Last season, he brought Florian Thauvin et al to finish second in the French League.

However, this season, Marseille’s journey is a bit hobbled. They were eliminated in the Champions League group stage, and are currently in ninth place in the Ligue 1 standings with 32 points.
