01 What are the competitions held in China?

The China Badminton Open was first held in 1986. Chinese players won all the championships in the China Open in 1987, 1995 and 2001. This is also the best record of Chinese players in all previous China Opens.

In 2007, the World Badminton Federation launched the Super Series system, and the China Open was listed as an important stop in the twelve stations of the Super Series, and its results were included in the world rankings and Olympic points.

In 2018, the World Badminton Federation reformed the competition system again, adjusting the two open events held in China to S1000 and S750 respectively, and the total prize money has also increased. Among them, the China (Changzhou) Open held in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province every September is the S1000 level, which is the top Open at the same level as the All England and Indonesia Open. The China (Fuzhou) Open held in Fuzhou, Fujian every November is the S750 level.

As a very important high-level event in the BWF tournament system, the China Open attracts a large number of top players to participate every year.

It is worth mentioning that in the 2019 tournament, the Chinese badminton team has achieved a good record. In the autumn of September, Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong defended the Changzhou Open champion. Before the awards ceremony, the IELTS group led the audience to sing about the motherland and present the most beautiful blessings for the 70th birthday of the Republic. Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan, who “responsible for strength” in women’s doubles, beat the Japanese team and won the Chinese Open for the first time.

Chen Yufei stubbornly reversed Okuhara’s hopes and successfully defended the Fuzhou Open women’s singles champion. Wang Yilu/Huang Dongping dared to fight and fight, defeated the teammate IELTS combination, and won the honor.

In 2020, affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the two China Opens were forced to cancel. But the national feather athletes are always ready to attack the Tokyo Olympics.

02 Asian Championships in China

The Asian Badminton Championship is a competition organized by the Asian Badminton Federation to reward the best badminton players in Asia. The competition began in 1962 and has been held annually since 1991. Before the cancellation of team competitions in 1994, team and individual competitions were held alternately.

In 2015, Wuhan won the right to host the Asian Championships for five years, and the 2015-2020 Asian Championships will be held in Wuhan Sports Center. As Asia’s top sports event, the Badminton Asian Championships represent the high level of world badminton to a certain extent.

Mixed doubles is the advantage of the Chinese team. In the 2019 Asian Championships, the Chinese team has three pairs to advance to the semi-finals. Defending champion Wang Yilu/Huang Dongping and teammate He Jiting/Du Yue won three rounds. In the women’s doubles competition, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan drove forward without fear of difficulties, reversing Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara, winning the Asian Championship for the first time in their career. Although the men’s singles and women’s singles were unfortunately defeated, the tenacious spirit and fighting attitude of Shi Yuqi, He Bingjiao and Chen Yufei left a deep impression on the fans.

The 2020 Asian Championships will be the last Asian Championships in the Tokyo Olympic cycle and the last Asian Championships planned to be hosted by Wuhan Sports Center. As the last stop of the original Olympic points, it may usher in a legendary end. But affected by the epidemic, the Asian Championships were cancelled. The Wuhan Sports Center was in danger and was transformed into a shelter hospital, which isolated and treated more than a thousand patients, and made a huge contribution during the critical period of the epidemic. At 1:30 pm on March 8, 2020, the shelter hospital of Wuhan Sports Center sent the last batch of 13 patients away and officially closed the cabin. The former Wuhan Sports Center has once again restored its original appearance.

As a major badminton country, the China Badminton Association has always actively hosted badminton events and contributed its own strength to the development of badminton.
