Robert Lewandowski contributed one goal as Bayern Munich celebrated a goal at Schalke 04 headquarters. The Polish striker was back in the German League record books.
Lewandowski appeared as a starter when Bayern met Schalke at the Veltins Arena on Sunday (24/1/2021) evening WIB, in the Bundesliga continued this season. The Reds scored the first goal in the 33rd minute through Thomas Mueller, who put the visitors 1-0 up until the break.
Lewandowski managed to double Bayern’s lead in the 54th minute. The 32-year-old striker received the ball from Joshua Kimmich’s side, before firing a shot from close range that rattled Schalke’s goal.
Bayern scored two additional goals via Mueller (88 ‘) and David Alaba (90’). The defending German League champions closed the match with a landslide victory 4-0.
Robert Lewandoski’s victory at Bayern this time was even more sweet. His goal against Schalke earned him entry into the Bundesliga record books.
Yes, Lewandowski became the first player to score in eight consecutive away matches in the German League. Of the eight matches, he recorded a total of ten goals.
This is not the first time Lewandowski has broken a Bundesliga record. Last week, he became the first player in the league to score 21 goals in the first half of the competition after breaking into Freiburg’s goal.
Lewandowski’s achievements did not stop there. The goal he scored against Schalke was also his 500th goal at club and national team level.
This amount makes Lewandowski the fourth active player to score 500 goals or more. Previously, there were names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the list.
His goal against Schalke this time also strengthened Robert Lewandowski’s position in the top scorer list in the 2020/2021 German League. He has scored 23 goals in 18 matches, nine goals ahead of his closest competitor, Erling Haaland.
