Hamburg (SID) – Former German Davis Cup captain Niki Pilic does not believe in further great triumphs for tennis superstar Roger Federer. “I can’t imagine Federer winning another major tournament or two,” the 81-year-old told the Serbian daily Blic: “I’m not saying he can’t, but it will be very difficult.”
Pilic pointed out that Federer’s rivals Rafael Nadal (34) and Novak Djokovic (33) are both younger. In addition, there would be the German number one Alexander Zverev, US Open champion Dominic Thiem from Austria and the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who recently won the ATP finals in London.
Federer, with 20 titles tied with Nadal Grand Slam record winner, had recently canceled his return to the tennis tour, which was planned for the Australian Open. The comeback is postponed after two knee operations in 2020.
