The Spanish tennis players Garbiñe Muguruza and Sara Sorribes have started the season with victories against the French Kristina Mladenovic (6-2, 6-4) and the Argentine Nadia Podoroska (6-3, 6-3), respectively, in the first round of the Abu Dhabi tournament, WTA 500 category.
Fifth-seeded Muguruza took advantage of Mladenovic’s nerves, who racked up a total of 11 double faults, to claim victory in one hour and 41 minutes. Her next opponent will be Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, against whom she will seek to reach the round of 16.
For his part, Sorribes also began the year with a smile after submitting Podoroska with a total of six ‘breaks’ in one hour and 42 minutes of play. The player from Castellón will meet in her next commitment with the American Bernarda Pera.
