Russell Westbrook has been absent from the Washington Wizards for at least a week

The Washington Wizards will be without Russell Westbrook’s services for at least a week, the team announced on Monday. Accordingly, the 32-year-old is suffering from a quadriceps injury.

Westbrook is to be re-evaluated at the end of the week, and the point guard could possibly have to sit out even longer. The injury resulted from multiple blows to his left quadriceps, the team said.

“He was hit pretty hard in training camp,” said Wizards coach Scott Brooks on Monday. “That bothered him. He fought his way through, but never made excuses. It got better, but then he got another one, that set him back a bit.”

Westbrook got off to a disappointing start to the new season after trading in John Wall from the Houston Rockets in the offseason. In seven games, the 2017 MVP only placed 19.3 points at 37.8 percent from the field. In addition, however, he also had 11.3 assists and 9.7 rebounds.

With only 2 wins and 8 losses, the Wizards are last in the Eastern Conference, along with the Detroit Pistons. The absence of Westbrook will place even more responsibility on Bradley Beal’s shoulders.
