France Football magazine announced on Monday the candidates for the attack sector of the Dream Team Golden Ball, an election of the 11 best players in history, by position. Romário and Ronaldo are in the fight for the role of center forward. Rivellino, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho Gaúcho compete with Cristiano Ronaldo for the place of striker on the left. Meanwhile, on the right, Garrincha and Jairzinho must overcome, among others, Messi.

Romário and Ronaldo compete with the Dutch Marco Van Basten, Dennis Bergkamp and Johann Cruyff, the German Gerd Müller, the Portuguese Eusébio, the Liberian George Weah, the Hungarian Sandor Kocsis, and the Scottish Kenny Dalglish.

For the position of attacker on the left, France Football listed the following candidates: Rivellino, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho Gaúcho; the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo; Frenchman Thierry Henry; the Bulgarian Hristo Stoichkov; the Welsh Ryan Giggs; the German Karl-Heiz Rummenigge; the Serbian Dragan Džajić; and the Russian Oleg Blokhine.

As for the right wing striker, the names remembered by the French magazine were: Jairzinho and Garrincha; the Argentine Lionel Messi; the Dutchman Arjen Robben; the Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o; the Portuguese Luis Figo; the Irish north George Best; and the British David Beckham, Kevin Keegan and Stanley Matthews.

The “Golden Ball Dream Team” came about after France Football canceled the 2020 edition of the traditional annual award, which crowns the best players of the season. The magazine will make an election of the 11 best players in history, by position. 10 names are indicated per field sector, in a 3-4-3 formation.

The election will be made according to the same rules as the Golden Ball, with the votes of 170 experts chosen by France Football. The Dream Team of football history will be revealed in December. The magazine also opened a poll on its website for the popular election, which will have no influence on the official result.
