“I tested positive for the swab”

Nineteen-year-old Amanda Anisimova was born on August 31, 2001 in Freehold, USA. In the summer of 2019, she overtook Harmony Tan, Aryna Sabalenka, Irina-Camelia Begu, Aliona Bolsova and Simona Halep to reach her first Grand Slam semi-final in Paris, and then lost in the third set to Australian Ashleigh Barty.

In the season that has just ended, she never managed to play a round of 16 in the three major events, reaching the maximum in the semi-finals in Auckland (beaten by Serena Williams). Today at number 30 in the world rankings, Amanda was also 21 in October 2019.

The absence of Anisimova in the United Arab Emirates

These days, the American player was due to take part in the Abu Dhabi tournament in the United Arab Emirates, but at the last moment she announced her absence.

The reason? Amanda announced that she tested positive for coronavirus and will now have to go into quarantine until she is fully cured. Anisimova has only won one career title: It is the 2019 edition of the Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogotà, Colombia, where she overtook Australian Astra Sharma in three sets in the last game.

Amanda also reached the final in Hiroshima in 2018 but was defeated in the final by Hsieh Su-wei with a score of 6-2, 6-2. The coronavirus pandemic, which has been going on for almost a year, has killed nearly 2 million people and infected 89 million.

In the past few weeks, several vaccines have finally been approved that will hopefully reduce the risk of the virus and allow us to gradually return to normalcy from the past. The Australian Open in Melbourne starts in a month, Amanda Anisimova reached the round of 16 there two years ago, stopped by the Czech Petra Kvitova in two sets.
