NBA: Isaac Bonga falls out of rotation at Washington Wizards

Isaac Bonga started every game before the game against the Chicago Bulls, but now he was not used at all. Wizards coach Scott Brooks explained his measure after the recent defeat.

“It had to hit one,” said Wizards coach Scott Brooks when asked why Bonga didn’t get a single minute against the Chicago Bulls. In the first four games, the German was always in the starting five, but with the return of Rui Hachimura, the 21-year-old fell completely out of the rotation.

Hachimura had missed the first four games because of an eye infection. On his season debut, the Japanese put up 17 points and received praise from Brooks. “Rui did well,” said the coach, who did not write off Bonga.

“We’re trying to find minutes for Troy Brown Jr. and Bonga. Troy got them today, who knows what tomorrow will be like.” In an average of 17.8 minutes, Bonga has so far put on 5.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists, plus the German hit five of his eight threes.

As a complement to the stars Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal, Bonga fits into the team quite well as a 3-and-D player who doesn’t need the ball, but mostly the former Frankfurt stewed completely on the bench in the fourth quarters.

Bonga is considered possibly the best defender with the Wizards, especially for the wing positions. Against Chicago, the Wizards received 132 points, with a defensive rating of 115.1, only three teams (Houston, Denver, Portland) are worse than the capitals in the NBA.
