MU Sends Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo Away

Manchester

Manchester United will not renew Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo’s contracts which expire at the end of this season. Both of them could leave MU in this January.

The two players from Argentina were not Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice at MU. Both Rojo and Romero have never been played by Solskjaer in the 2020/2021 season.

Romero and Rojo are now entering the last six months of their contract with the Red Devils. Solskjaer has confirmed that Romero and Rojo’s contracts at Old Trafford will not be extended.

That means Romero and Rojo can be approached by any club starting this January. Solskjaer said that MU was trying to find a new club for the two players.

“Both have contracts until the summer and will not be extended,” Solskjaer said in a press conference ahead of the FA Cup match against Watford this weekend, as reported by the Mirror.

“We are looking for a new club for them. Marcos has been given time to go home, so he is still in Argentina.”

“Sergio has also come home to meet his family, but they are professionals, working hard and ready when needed. Marcos must travel and quarantine first (before returning to the squad),” added Solskjaer.

Sergio Romero joined Manchester United in 2015 and made 61 appearances in all competitions. The former Sampdoria goalkeeper spent most of his time at United as deputy David de Gea.

Romero had asked to be released in the transfer market last summer, but MU blocked his transfer. In the end, the 33-year-old goalkeeper was actually dropped from the MU squad in the Premier League and Champions League.

Meanwhile, Marcos Rojo was recruited by Manchester United in 2014. He has not played for MU since November 2019 and was loaned to Estudiantes.
