Spanish football is in mourning after hearing the news of the young player’s death Aitor Gandiaga Gerrikagoitia. The 23-year-old forward, who emerged from the quarry of the Athletic Bilbao and that after a step through it Eibar settled in the Gernika Club of the Third Division, lost his life in a car accident that occurred on a highway in Markina-Xemein, a municipality in the Basque Country.
According to local media, the incident occurred on the afternoon of this Sunday, around 5:40 p.m., when the Peugeot 307 driven by the footballer who lived in the town of Markina collided head-on with a Scania bus on public transport Line 3915. The incident occurred at kilometer 45 of the BI-633 highway, near the Iruzubieta crossing.
When the news of the accident was known, mobile firefighters, police and ambulances moved to the place, but nothing could be done to save the life of Gandiaga Gerrikagoitia, who He died at the time from serious injuries caused by the collision. His body had to be removed from the vehicle by members of the security forces.

As for the people traveling on the bus, the driver and a passenger had to be treated for minor injuries. Until now the causes of the crash are unknown which had a tragic outcome.
”This afternoon our player Aitor Gandiaga Gerrikagoitia died in a traffic accident at the age of 23. We join the feeling of pain of all his family and the people of Markina. We will never let your memory fade Gandi ”, informed the Gernika Club through a statement published on its social networks.
In the same way, the Athletic Bilbao, team from which he was loaned to Gernika in 2018: “Huge pain for a puppy that left its mark on Lezama.
