More than 60% of the places in ‘Tokyo 2020’ are assigned: COI

The body chaired by Thomas Bach, revealed that the qualification period will run until June 29; 25 Olympic sports returned to competition.

Less than six months before the start of the ‘Tokyo 2020′ Olympic Games, 10 international federations have restarted their Olympic rankings, while in recent weeks international events have been organized in 25 Olympic sports, this was part of what the Olympic Committee International (IOC), revealed about the fair and pointed out that until today, 61% of the athletes’ places have been assigned.

Therefore, 25% will be assigned during the remaining classification period, which will run until June 29, while the remaining 14% of the athletes will be selected through classifications, according to the respective system for each sport.

Furthermore, five sports and disciplines have already completed their qualification process: road cycling, track cycling, equestrian, field hockey, and volleyball.

Among the disciplines that restarted their qualification processes are judo and water polo, who held competitions this month, as well as tennis and golf.

Qualification events continue to take place in accordance with local health authorities and regulations, as well as ensuring that the health and safety of all participants are safeguarded.

In addition to the Tokyo 2020 qualifying events, international events in 25 Olympic sports are currently ongoing or scheduled for the next few weeks.

One of them is the Men’s World Championship of the International Handball Federation in Egypt, whose final is scheduled for January 31. Other World Championships that are scheduled from February to July 2021, correspond to the disciplines of track cycling, baseball, sailing, triathlon, fencing, sailing, gymnastics, surfing, shooting, modern pentathlon, table tennis and canoeing.
